Situated in the foothills and mid-slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain, with altitudes ranging from 240 to 360 metres above sea level, our estate carries all the elements required to make world-class wine.
The vineyard blocks are sited between 240 and 360 metres on the foothills and mid-slopes of the Simonsberg. High enough to catch the cool air that drifts in from the ocean, low enough to ripen fruit properly. It is this tension between warmth and cool that gives Warwick wines their particular character.
The northern part of Stellenbosch is red varietal territory so that Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are at home in the granitic soils of Warwick.
But a varietal list only tells part of the story. What happens beneath the surface matters just as much. An extensive replanting programme has ensured that each varietal is matched to its soil type. Row directions have been changed to optimise sunlight and wind traversing through the vineyard rows. Overarched by Warwick’s Champion status awarded by the World Wildlife Fund, is the philosophy of minimal intervention and regenerative farming. The increase in birds of prey attest to this as does the accreditation of nearly 99% of vines being virus free.
What grows here, grows here for a reason.
